Finding quality health information on the Internet can be a daunting task. Begin your search with a health information portal like MedlinePlus. A health information protal is a web site with documents and links that are authoritative and trustworthy.  Here are some high quality health information portals.
  •  MedlinePlus  http://www.medlineplus.gov
    ...over 18,000 links to up to date, authoritative medical information that has been evaluated by the National Library of Medicine. Includes 750 specific health topices, drug information, a medical dictionary, health news, directories, videos, and interactive health tutorials. GoLocal links provide information about local resources.
  • Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Consumers and Patients http://www.ahrq.gov/consumer/index.html
    As part of its effort the AHRQ strives to help consumers become better informed and participate as partners in their own health care.
  • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)  http://www.cdc.gov/
    Offers a wealth of information on topics such as Environmental Health, Living Healthy, Traveller's Health and more.
  • healthfinder  http://www.healthfinder.gov/
    The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services healthfinder links to quality information and Web sites from over 1,500 health-related organizations. This site also has a Drug Interaction Checker, Online Checkups, and health newsletters in Spanish and English.

    This site from the Nemours Foundation’s Center for Children’s Health includes information about child development, nutrition and fitness, preventive health care, and diseases and conditions in both English and Spanish.

    Experts at the May clinic provide easy-to-understand health and medical information. on common diseases and conditions, plus healthy living guides, Health Tools, Treatment Decision Guides, blogs and podcasts.

For web sites found using a search engine such as Google, it is vital that you carefully evaluate what you find for quality. Here are links to help you know how to find the best health informaiton.

    The Medical Library Association created this guide to finding quality, safe and up to date health information on the Internet. The "Getting Started" section includes tips on  using quality electronic finding tools developed by the U.S. government. The guidelines section was developed to help you evaluate the content of health-related websites.
